Our Star Wars heroine was born on the planet Alderaan to Padme and Anakin Skywalker and named Leia Amidala Skywalker. (It's only much later in the story that we learn that Padme was Queen of Naboo and a Senator in the Empire, while the original calling for Anakin was clearly as a Jedi knight: "Let the Force be with you!") But when Anakin turned to the Dark Side of the Force in support of the evil Empire, he tried to kill his wife, Padme.

Leia (called "Leah" or "Liea" by some) was then separated from her brother, Luke Skywalker, and adopted into the Royal House of Alderaan. There she became Princess Leia Organa, and was groomed to become a Senator in the Galactic Empire like her adoptive father (and like her biological mother).

But when she saw the corruption and abuse of power of the evil Emperor, Princess Leai joined forces with the Rebel Alliance ... only then to be captured by powerful Darth Vader and to see her home planet of Alderaan destroyed by the Empire's Death Star. That was one of many times the courageous princess was captured and escaped ... this time delivering the blue prints of the evil Empire's plans to the Alliance.
